If not now, when?

What would happen if you
could no longer manage your life? If you are in a car accident this afternoon that puts you
into the hospital in a coma, and you don't wake up for three months, who would you
appoint to run your home and your business in your absence? What would you tell that person,
if you could? If that person was injured in the same accident, who would
be your next choice? If you have not already created the documents to enpower that person to
act for you, what are you waiting for? If not now, when?

CREATE
YOUR PLAN STEP BY STEP - A simple will
is a great place to start
- You should also have
a durable power of attorney for health care, also called an Advanced Directive
- Next
up is a Durable Power of Attorney for Financial Matters
- In order to avoid the
expense and delay caused by probating your estate, which means a court supervised transfer of your assets upon your death,
you may wish to set up a Revocable Living Trust
- For larger estates,
tax planning is in order. Working with a certified financial planner or CPA, your attorney will draft more sophisticated
trusts, business entities and other vehicles in order to ensure that your wishes
are carried out.
